Traditional Beni Ourain rugs are made by the Beni Ourain tribes in Morocco’s Atlas mountains. They feature abstract linear patterns, typically in dark brown or black on a white field and have taken on a new status in home decor.
First made popular in the West by Le Corbusier and other modern architects at the beginning of the 20th century, the popularity of the Beni Ourain shows no signs of flagging. No longer just eclectic, global pieces for the home, they are fast becoming new, modern classics for good reason — from traditional black and white spaces, to rooms with just a little pop of color, these geometric rugs are a great way to ground and define an interior, add a little texture and warmth to a room.
Here are 8 of my favorite rooms where Beni Ourain rugs are used to create a unique statement in a range of interiors.
I stubled on this post of ours from back in 2015, and amazingly I’m still just as in love with the Beni Ourain Rug as I was then so had to share it again.
